The train ride takes passengers on a journey across fertile valleys and through river gorges in a spectacular region of the Great Smoky Mountains. The 4-1/2-hour round-trip excursion in the beautiful western North Carolina mountains offers a wide array of ever-changing vegetation, fantastic landscapes and whitewater scenes. All trains depart the Bryson City Depot.
First class passengers can enjoy the all-inclusive First Class Package with dining and souvenirs. The Nantahala Gorge Excursion offers an optional Raft and Rail combination April through October. Ask about lunch options. Special events are held throughout the year such as the Easter Beagle Express, Lone Ranger, Day Out With Thomas, Railfest, and Polar Express.
