Avery County Historical Museum
The Avery County Historical Museum is housed in the old Avery County Jail, built in 1912. Its purpose is to collect, preserve and display all vital information, photographs and artifacts about people, events, and places that make up the history of Avery County and the surrounding areas of the Toe River Valley. The museum also serves to provide this information to those seeking to learn more about our rich history, or their own local ancestral roots.
You are invited to visit the Museum not only to see the historical items on display but also to visit the new research room. There are hundreds of books and papers to aid in research of family genealogies, places and subjects in Avery County & surrounding counties.
