Cape Lookout National Seashore is located on NC’s southern Outer Banks on the Crystal Coast and consists of three undeveloped barrier islands covering 55 miles. Activities include:fishing, swimming, birding, boating, windsurfing, kayaking and shelling. Although well known for Cape Lookout Lighthouse, its surf fishing, wide beaches, and as a home for wild horses and shore birds, the area also boasts a rich and colorful human history. These islands have been home to fishermen, whalers and stockmen and have borne witness to shipwrecks and daring rescues.

More than a century ago, Portsmouth Village was a bustling sea village. Today, the village stands in stark contrast to its days filled with sounds of fishermen, children playing, lifesavers practicing rescue drills, the tinkle of livestock bells, and the call of "Mailboat!" Tour the now-deserted village.
