Operated by The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, the center provides information on attractions, events and directions. The center, built in 1901, is housed in the first U.S. Weather Bureau Station. The station played a key role in the nation's developing meteorological network, and endured some of the worst storms of the 20th century until decommissioned in 1946.
